Assunto Infinito

Forgive me in advance for my crappy camera quality.

It is that time in the month when every "influencer" blast their followers in the face with all the stuff they bought in the month. Well, I like to think of myself as the Jeffree Star of records and as such, a haul would only be the right thing to do.

Anyways, this month marks kind of a new milestone on my analogue media formats collection. Earlier this year, I wrote about how I started collecting cassete tapes and would only be fair if I started collecting the only the only format from my childhood left: VHS.

It may sound weird for the rest of the millenials out there who only know Netflix, but back in the days we watched movies on tapes. I know I sound like a baby boomer (or older) but I was lucky enough to be born on the last years of VHS and it is very magical. However, my old VCR broke, but was good enough to at least clean tapes, so I kept it and bought a new one.

The "new" model I got is a 7 head Hi-Fi Gradiente HT-GSV870C. This mouthful, much for my surprise, works like heaven. It plays tape with such sharpness (in modern TV) and quality that I was honestly very impress. Another good point about it is that the colors are very vibrant and vivid. It was a really good deal.

Here are some of my new VHS.

The first VHS I was able to pick represents my pure childhood. Xuxa is someone who I mention quite a bit. In fact, she was my first idol and gay diva. She built a very consistent career and managed to become one of the most successful singers in Latin America, breaking the record of the best selling album of 1988 - a fact that got her a space on the Guinness Book.

This is Xuxa Só Para Baixinhos 2 (Xuxa Only for Children 2), from 2001. It was originally sold in a pack containing VHS and CD. Basically, this is a visual album. So it's safe to say she invented it way before Beyoncé made this a thing. There are 12 volumes of this series, but the first 6 ones are the best. After that, it got a little saturated.

Not only that, I was able to find her movie from the same year, Xuxa e os Duendes (Xuxa and the Leprechauns), a kids movie about love and ecology. Very educative! And not only that, it features some of Brazil's iconic stars, Ana Maria Braga and Luciana Gimenez (who had an affair and a son with Mick Jagger), who are well established TV personalities and meme stars. Brazil's culture is very one-of-a-kind!

This movie also stars Angelica, one of the three top children singers from the 90s (the other two were Xuxa, of course, and Eliana). The media created a feud between them to see who were the most popular among kids. But in reality they were good friends and actually made money out of this "feud".

The next items are some of the Hollywood's greatest. Yes, my friends, I've got this super rare Titanic VHS and a Singin' in the Rain DVD. I was very lucky to put my hand on one of those Titanic pack, specially because they're worth a fortune online and I paid only $3 on a near mint edition.

Let's get into some 50's feeling, because I finally found my favorite soundtrack all time: Grease! I believe this was one of the first musicals I've watched and I feel in love with it immediately. The songs are amazing and the story actually brings some relevant topics, such as gender roles and teenage pregnancy. Sorry not sorry, High School Musical...

The other item is a Rebel Without a Cause VHS. James Dean at his best! It was really a surprise to find this tape, but I am really glad I did, because this is one of my favorite vintage movies. By the way, this is a movie that I have on both DVD and VHS.

Moving on, a collection of movies in black and white. This is apart of a bigger collection, I believe they were sold as fascicles, but, unfortunately, there were only those available. Nevertheless, I can only imagine how iconic the rest of the volumes are. The 1939 version of the Wuthering Heights, starring Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberlon and the 1930 The Blue Angel, starring the lesbian legend herself, Marlene Dietrich.

Unfortunately, my tape of the Wuthering Heigts is unreversably broken, so I can't really play it. Even so, it is an amazing relic to keep.

Next up, a young Julia Roberts starring on Dying Young. This VHS is part of the 'Selections', from 20th Century Fox. According to the trailer at the beginning of the tape, it was a selection of classic movies that were sold for 10 dollars or less.

Speaking of legends, here are are the young Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep on 'While You Were Sleeping' and 'The Bridges Of Madison County'. By the way, can I just say that even though Warner tried to put all the attention on Clint Eastwood and sometimes not mentioning  Meryl Streep, she was the absolute scene stealer!

I am not gonna lie that I don't really care for those next movies, but I decided to give them a change anyways. Dangerous Liaisons and the 1995 version of Sabrina. In my opinion, no one but Audrey Hepburn can play Sabrina, but since I've never watched this version, I gave it a shot.

Let's have one more stop in Brazil gay culture before we go on to the last part of this haul. This next two itens are 7' singles of brazilian booty queen and the biggest meme star in the world: Gretchen! And yes, dear foreign friends, she was on the Katy Perry music video for Swish Swish. These are the 1979 and 1981 singles of Freak Le Boom Boom and Melô do Piripiri.

Last but not least, the records I've spent all my money with: Barbra Streisand's. She's one of my all time favorite vocalists and an absolute legend. The following albums are, chronologically: People (1964); Barbra Streisand's Greatest Hits volume 2 (1979); Wet (1982) and Barbra Live in Concert: The Music... The Mem'ries... The Magic!  (2017).

Barbra was not the only legend I spent my money on. I also got Tina Turner Live! and the soundtrack from Rocketman.

That's all, folks! I probably should stop spending time on vintage stuff in order to buy a better camera so I can take better pictures for this type of post! Anyways, hope you liked it!

Hello, dear thrifters of all around the world!

For the past few months I have been sharing online my experience going back to "old ways of listening to music". I've gotten some cassette tapes, a player and now I have a small cassette collection. Everything I am about to show you is thrifted. I have not bought any new albums on the format yet - even though I want to. Most of the stuff I own is classical music - Beethoven, Chopin and all those great composers, but I also have some pop music and even country! And of course I have mixtapes I made myself.

I thought I would start off with the first piece I got. The 1987 Walk The Moon self titled album. It is also my favorite album on cassette, the one I play the most. It mixes some pop and rock on a very unique type of sound that reminds me of the underground scene. You should listen to their only hit Daddy's Coming Home.

Still in the 80s, one of the tapes I got at the same time as the first one is the 52nd Street's 'Something's Going On'. The art cover caught my attention immediately. I mean, it is really gorgeous. The songs on this album is very 80s pop - full of synthesizer and electronic sounds.

(dat aesthetic tho!!)

Taking a look on my country tapes, I shall start with the tape that integrates the quartet I first got. The Vega Brothers got me not just because they are quite handsome in a very 80's way or because their artwork is equally great, but the name of the songs are ICONIC! 'Heartache the size of Texas' proved to be a great love song, but also the title is a huge mood, honestly! I should also recommend you to listen to their jam 'New Woman'.

None of the bands I've mentioned so far were very successful. I couldn't barely found information about them online, but this next one is actually someone who you might've heard of someday. John Denver is a sad case of a talent lost too soon. He died on a plane crash in 1977. I am not gonna lie that I had any idea of who he was when I bought that tape. But I heard about him before and I knew he was some type of a legend, so I took it anyway. I had nothing to loose and the tape was on sale and I am yet to take a close listen to it.

Should we talk about some classical music right now? Great!

Fun fact about me is that I actually really enjoy some classic music, specially Beethoven and Debussy. I think it is really relaxing, besides that, these compositions are literally masterpieces humanity should be really proud of.

The tape on the right translates as Classic for the Millions vol. 7 - Instrumental Solos. It is apart of a bigger collection, but I am hopeless I will someday find the other volumes, but it does not matter, specially because it'd be hard to top volume 7, since it has some of my favorite songs - Clair de Lune, for example.

The one in the left is a reunion of four genius: Beethoven, Brahams, Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky played by the David Oistrakh Orchestra. By the way, the actual tape is not red, it's only all the way rewinded.

These next two are not necessarily classical music, it is actually piano renditions of songs of the time. And those two are very legit tapes and they are published by CBS Records, a major corporation that nowadays is a subsidiary of Sony. The green one, with a lovely lady at the cover means 'The Sound of Success - Tropical Serenade Orchestra', the one above is 'Wonderful Piano vol. 2'.

Speaking of piano rendition of popular songs. I should talk about the last tape I got the day I first bought cassettes. The title translates as "The Body Expresses Itself and Dances". It is apart of a material made for ballet classes developed by Renée Walls. I don't really know the songs in it, in fact I think they are originals, but there is an amazing instrumental piano cover of Eric Clapton's All By Myself.

Last but not least, Earl Grant's Greatest Hits. Earl Grant was a very famous pianist in the 60s, and the main reason why I picked this album was because of the song 'Stand By Me', made popular by Ben E. King and it is one of my all time favorite songs!

As a bonus track, I will show two mixtapes I made. Actually, it is one mixtape and a fanmade soundtrack of the movie If I Stay - which i the best soundtrack ever and I had to have it on cassette. The actual mixtape is some of my favorite Xuxa's songs from the 80's. For those who do not know Xuxa, she is one of the biggest celebrities in Brazil, best known for her TV shows for children and albums that entered the Guinness Book for selling millions.

That's it for today, folks! Don't forget to follow me both on Blogger and Bloglovin' so you won't miss new stuff. Speaking of new stuff, keep your eyes open, because soon I will talk a little bit more about my vinyl collection.

EN:
Greetings, dear Christmas elves! Hope you liked my new and elaborated layout for wishlists that I have alredy used for yesterday's Gift Guide.

2018 entered the history as the year of the hottest tea ever spilled on the makeup community, there was countless dramas envolving social climbing, racial stuff, overpriced products, brands that put out too much makeup and the list goes on and on. As a huge makeup fan, of course a lot of releases have been sitting on my wishlist so I decided to do an ultimate makeup wishlist and add a lot of my favorite products of 2018 that I did not have the opportunity to try, specially beauty guru's collaborations or their own's brand makeup.

I must disclaim that since I live in Brazil, these makeup are almost impossible to get my hands on. Most of the brands are not sold in here. In fact, Sephora does sell a few brand such as Kat Von D, Maybelline, Too Faced and a few others, however, the price point is astronomical and way out of my range.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics is expanding and is expected (or at least I do) to soon arive at Latin America and he is indeed, the one brand I'd invest some money on because I am sure of the quality of the products. So, Jeffree, even though I know you won't read this, but please, come to Brazil as fast as possible.

Anyways, let's go to the items in my Wishlist:

1. The James Charles x Morphe Palette;
2. The Alien Palette by Jeffree Star Cosmetics;
3. The Blood Sugar Palette by Jeffree Star Cosmetics;
4. The Jaclyn Hill x Morphe Palette;
5. Liquid Frost Highliters by Jeffree Star - I can imagine myself mixing this with my body lotion and shining brighter than Edward Cullen in the sun. Btw, I recommend you watch the John Maclean review;
Image result for edward cullen shining gif
5. The Norvina Palette by Anastacia Beverlly Hill;
6. Life's a Drag Palette by Lunar Beauty - Even though I do not support Manny MUA anymore, I really do think he's putted out a great palette and I'd like to try it;
7. Kylie Cosmetics' 2018 Birthday Palette - This is probably the best color story in years!
BONUS: The Patrick Starrr x MAC Collection (all of them)

PT:

1. A paleta do James Charles x Morphe;
2. A paleta Alien, da Jeffree Star Cosmetics;
3. A paleta Blood Sugar, da Jeffree Star Cosmetics;
4. A paleta da Jaclyn Hill x Morphe;
5. Os iluminadores líquidos Skin Frost, da Jeffree Star Cosmetics - Eu até posso me imaginar misturando isto ao meu hidratante corporal e brilhando mais que o Edward Cullen. Inclusive, eu recomendo que assistam à resenha do John Maclean;
6. A paleta Norvina, da Anastacia Beverlly Hills;
7. A paleta Life's a Drag, da Lunar Beauty - Mesmo que eu não apoie mais o Manny MUA, eu acho que ele fez um bom trabalho neste lançamento e eu realmente gostaria de tentar.
8. A paleta especial de aniversário de 2018, da Kylie Cosmetics;

Greetings, Santa's Helpers!

Everybody knows that in this blog we're all about music! And what a greater season for music than Christmas? Thinking of that, I decided to list some os my favorite Holiday Albums you NEED to listen to. So, turn up the volume, press the play button and let's dance!

Bing Crosby - White Christmas (1945):
bing crosby white christmas

It would be a crime if I didn't start with Bing Croby's White Christmas. With songs like Mele Kalikimaka and the best rendition of Jingle Bells ever (featuring The Andrews Sisters), this album is a true classic.

Christmas Songs by Sinatra - Frank Sinatra (1947):
Resultado de imagem para christmas songs by sinatra

If you don't play Frank Sinatra's Christmas songs, then it's not Christmas at all. The classic album was recorded by Columbia Records in 1947 and is the definition of the Chrismtas Spirit. Personally, the best track is Let It Snow, which is also an all time favorite of mine. By the way, it's just me or the 40s have the best songs?

Merry Christmas - Mariah Carey (1994):
Resultado de imagem para merry christmas mariah carey

This is the absolute masterpiece of our generation! Mariah Carey's Merry Christmas is simply delightful. It gave us one of the best Christmas songs: All I Want For Christmas Is You. The single, ever since it was released, comes back to the top of Billboard Charts during the season. This album also has a huge influence from Gospel.

The Carpenters - Christmas Collection (1983):
Resultado de imagem para the carpenters christmas collection

Karen Carpenter's voice is doubtlessly the best thing about it. I definelly recommend this one for those of you who like a soft type of music.

Glee Cast - The Christmas Album:
glee xmas albums

The series has four amazing Christmas episodes and an album that reunites all the songs that played during the Holidays specials. Mixing classic and new, Glee's album has something for everybody, besides that, who can resist Lea Michele's voice on O Holy Night?

Michael Bublé - Christmas (2011):
Resultado de imagem para christmas michael buble

Bublé is one of the greatest voices of this generation and his Christmas album is full of references. From Sinatra, Croby to Mariah. All tied up by Michael's divine voice. His rendition of It's Beggining to Look a Lot Like Christmas is really great.

Kelly Clarkson - Wrapped In Red (2013):
Resultado de imagem para wrapped in red kelly

Kelly Clarkson is one of my all time favorite singers, as well as one of the greatest singers nowadays. Her 2013 Wrapped in Red is the perfect album to get cozy in front of a fire place with the one you love. But it also brings some amazing songs to dance, such as Run Run, Rudolph, My Favorite Things & her original song, Underneath the Tree.

The Beach Boys' Christmas Album - The Beach Boys (1964):

The Beach Boys were this really famous band in the 60s. For those of you who, like me, prefer old school type of music, you shall love their Christmas album, specially their version 'Frosty The Snowman'. By the way, didn't you love this gif someone made out of the album cover?

Jackson 5 Christmas Album - Jackson 5 (1970):
Image result for the jackson 5 christmas album
Speaking of old school classics, we could not forget the iconic Jackson 5 Christmas Album. This album is full of emblematic songs, such as: I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, The Christmas Song and Someday at Christmastime - which if you've watched Love, Simon, you'll certainly recognize.

A Charlie Brown Christmas, Vince Guaraldi Trio (1965):
A Charlie Brown Christmas is a timeless movie classic and so is its soundtrack. This album is definately for those who like to throw back way before the 50s and 40s and go to some very old European songs. A Charlie Brown Christmas is also very relaxing thanks to the piano that plays on most tracks.

Elvis' Christmas Album - Elvis Presley (1957):
Elvis' legacy will never die. In fact, neither will his Christmas album. It's so iconic that the songs have been remastered and re-recorded in new versions, such as the orchestra album they made last year - and I absolutely live for it.

Christina Aguilera - My Kind of Christmas (2000):
Image result for my kind of christmas christina aguilera

My Kind of Christmas is one of my favorite Christmas albums and I have to listen to it at least once every Christmas. In fact, in every Christmas Playlist I make, at least two songs of Christina Aguilera's are included. My favorites are surely The Christmas Song and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.

Celine Dion - These Are Special Times (1998):
Resultado de imagem para celine dion these are special times

What can we possibly say about Celine Dion? I mean, she's a f**king genious and this album reflects  her perfectly. This is really something to listen to and get blessed by Dion's powerful vocals singing John Lennon's Happy Xmas (War Is Over).

A Christmas Gift For You From Pfill Spector, Various Artists (1963):

According to Rolling Stones, this is the best Christmas Album of all time. Listening to it is something to do before dying! This album contains some of the best recordings of the best songs and artists, like The Ronette's rendition of Sleigh Ride and Dalene Love's Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).

Which one of these album have you already listened to? Leave in the comments below. Don't forget to stay tunned for tomorrow's Blogmas post.
